My team’s first fully animated music video for Hallman Animation Studios.

Written and directed by Brent Hallman, the art style and characters were created by Ely of After Death Comics (as well as the majority of frame by frame animation including Andee’s rotoscope).

I was responsible for backgrounds, animation and compositing; and also got to try frame by frame for the first time with the wolf’s run cycle.

Luckily Savage out of me is an awesome song to spend a lot of time with and deserving of a good video. Andee is quite the theatrical personality; I definitely recommend following her on Instagram to see what I mean.

This project was a tremendous amount of work and a lot of late nights, but I’m quite happy with the result. We learned a lot of do’s and don’ts, one of which is not to drag things out to long (this is especially evident in the Abstract sequences).

A good rule of thumb is to change things up every 5 seconds or so to keep the viewer engaged. However in this case, we were happy just to be able to come up with enough content for the 3½ minutes.

We got our chance to improve on this in our next project: USS – Happy, with great results.

Easter Egg: Unknowingly Ely created the male character in the likeness of Andee’s actual husband in real life!

Enjoy!
